School of Education & Behavioral Sciences

Welcome to the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, a dynamic academic hub where faculty, students and our community stakeholders come together to prepare the next generation of scholars, practitioners and professionals. Our vision is to be the regional leader in preparing informed, caring, and professional graduates who will transform our social world. Every day, we work toward our goals of engaging students in the lifelong processes of learning, discovery and application of knowledge.

Strong schools are the foundation of any community and economy and the School’s Department of Teacher Education and Social Work is playing a key role in educational innovations and improvements in our area. Through the outstanding work of our faculty, staff, and students, we are helping to improve the lives of people in Middle Georgia, the nation, and the world. We invite you to explore our well-regarded programs in Elementary and Special Education (dual-certification) and Secondary Education, as well as our Master of Arts in Teaching, leading to initial teacher certification while you earn your Master’s. As a social work student at MGA you will learn through community-based, hands-on learning; so that you might serve and advocate through direct and community practice within the region’s rural and urban centers, and beyond.

The Department of Political Science offers bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Studies along with minors in African and African Diaspora Studies, Global Studies, Political Science, Pre-Law, and Environmental Policy Studies and a joint certificate in European Union Studies. These programs impart understanding of critical domestic issues along with global awareness in our students and give them the knowledge and skills they need to be socially conscious leaders in their communities.

Our Department of Psychology and Criminal Justice offers popular degree programs in Psychology and Criminal Justice as well as a minor in Sociology and a new Certificate in Gerontology — these programs aim to produce graduates who know how to enact social change by making meaningful connections between textbook theory and practice.

My hope is to connect you with one of our programs and with our faculty teacher-scholar-practitioners. Whether your passion is to design a better school lunch program, counsel and assist families in crisis, become a victim’s advocate in the district attorney’s office, teach your own second-grade classroom, attend law school, be a city manager, gain admittance to a doctoral program in forensic psychology, or a near-limitless realm of other possibilities, we look forward to being your academic home at MGA.

Welcome again!

Very Truly Yours,
Dr. David Biek
