Biography: Dr. Peter B. Makaya was born in Zimbabwe and attended Georgia State University where he earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. At Georgia State University, he was an active member of the Black Students Alliance and the Georgia State University Panther Soccer Team. He also holds a doctoral degree in Law (J.D.) from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta. He has served as Dean of the School of Social Sciences, as Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and Professor of Criminal Justice, History and Political Science at Middle Georgia State University.

Makaya is a recipient of many awards, including the Alumni Association Award, given to the Most Outstanding Professor of the Year, and the Minority Students Award, given to faculty members who work with minority students at the college. He has also received several Certificates of Appreciation from the University System Africa Council for serving as faculty Advisor at SEMAU Annual Conferences. He has presented papers at professional conferences and has been a guest speaker at local organizations and schools. He is currently the Chair of the Literacy Committee of the Rotary Club of Dublin, GA. He is past president of the Middle Georgia State College Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).

At Middle Georgia State University, Makaya advises two Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) : The MGA SEMAU and the Mock Mediation Organizations.

Makaya is a registered Mediator (Neutral) with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution. He and his wife Clara have a three-year old grandson.
