Middle Georgia State University is seeking candidates for an Academic Support Specialist/Tutor. This is responsible for providing tutoring services to Middle Georgia State University students.


• Tutors students in a variety of academic and computer skills with preference given to subjects in the sciences; works individually and with groups of students to explain, clarify, and structure material previously covered in class.

• Assists Coordinator with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training part-time tutors and student assistants;

• Promotes tutorial services to students.

• Tracks usage of tutorial services and prepares related reports.

• Schedules and conducts workshops.

• Advises and registers students as needed.

• Maintains and contributes updates to the tutorial center website.

• Performs related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field; sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years; and possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge of the principles of college-level tutoring; knowledge of computers and job-related software programs; knowledge of current academic resources and materials; knowledge of student support services on campus; skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions; and skill in oral and written communication.

SALARY: Pay Grade 14
