Middle Georgia State College has now partnered with Gwinnett Technical College to provide students a pathway to information technology bachelor's degrees.

Thanks to an articulation agreement that will take effect on January 1, 2013, qualified graduates of Gwinnett Tech’s computer information systems associate's degrees or diploma programs can transfer seamlessly to Middle Georgia State to complete a bachelor of science degree in information technology.

Macon State - soon to be Middle Georgia State College - is part of the University System of Georgia. Gwinnett Tech, in Lawrenceville, is part of the separately governed Technical College System of Georgia. Middle Georgia State’s School of Information Technology already has similar articulation agreements with Athens, Central Georgia, Chattahoochee, Georgia Northwestern, Georgia Piedmont and Middle Georgia technical colleges. It also has an articulation agreement with Darton College, a USG institution.

Recent articulation agreements have made it easier for tech college graduates in technology related fields to transfer to Macon State to complete bachelor's degrees. Such transfers were not unheard of in the past, but often a large portion of a student's tech college credit was not accepted and the student had to retake certain courses.

"The articulation agreements we've created with the technical colleges provide immense benefits to students," said Johnathan Yerby, a member of Middle Georgia State’s IT faculty who serves as the advising coordinator for the School of IT. "The agreements create a clear pathway for students who want or need bachelor's degrees to further their careers."
