School Of IT Among Digital Economy Summit Sponsors

The region's digital economy is the topic of an upcoming summit to be held on the Macon Campus of Middle Georgia State College.

The Middle Georgia Digital Economy Summit is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Professional Sciences and Conference Center. The summit is hosted by the Middle Georgia Regional Commission in partnership with the Georgia Technology Authority. Middle Georgia State's School of Information Technology is a sponsor of the event.

The summit will provide the public with an all-day forum featuring leaders in business, government and education as they discuss the digital economy and its impact on Middle Georgia. Sessions will showcase panel discussions about the latest in digital technologies involving broadband, educational tech, business integration, crowdfunding and the maker/makerspace movement. The summit will feature keynote speeches from Brian Shield, vice president of IT for the Boston Red Sox, and Travis Allen, president of the iSchool Initiative. There will be a session on high tech in education, which includes Dr. Christopher Blake, Middle Georgia State's president, as a panelist. Dr. Alex Koohang, dean of the School of IT, will moderate that session.
