Provost named as member of Ga. Professional Standards Commission

Dr. Martha Venn, provost of Middle Georgia State College, has been named by Gov. Nathan Deal as a member of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Deal made the announcement on Friday, Dec. 19.


Venn assumes her appointment on Jan. 8, 2015. She will also be chairing the subcommittee on Educator/Preparation/Certification.

As a member of the commission, Venn will serve on the deliberative body that considers issues involving the preparation, certification, and professional conduct of certified personnel employed in the Georgia public schools.

As provost, Venn is the highest ranking academic administrator at the college. She was the founding dean of the college's School of Education and served as the senior executive director for educator preparation for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

Venn earned a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Western Illinois University, a master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate degree in Special Education from the University of Illinois.

She has three children and three grandchildren.She resides in Macon.
