Students in Dr. Nancy Bunker’s English Renaissance Drama class at Middle Georgia State will present a Readers' Theater performance, featuring selected works of some of Shakespeare’s contemporaries, including Thomas Dekker, Thomas Middleton, John Fletcher, John Webster, Christopher Marlowe, Ben Jonson and John Marston.

The performance will be held in the College of Arts and Sciences building theater on the Macon Campus at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. This event is free and open to the public.

Readers' Theater means lines are read rather than acted. Students will take the stage, sit on chairs and speak the lines from excerpts they choose that speak to the specific social, economic, religious and political issues confronting the patrons attending 16th- and 17th-century productions. There will be specific lighting, occasional movement and a few props, but Readers’ Theater is minimalist in its origin. No flashy costumes or scenery; there is no memorization. Vocal inflection is the key. Students will also read a short introduction to each play and provide connective plot information so the audience can follow the arc of the overall plot.

The students reading will be Erin Baty, Emily Bowen, Immanuel Burney, Katie Gray, Patrick Klingaman, Terrie Lewis, Salina Patterson, Taylor Paul, Calabria Turner and Matthew Wentz.
