Middle Georgia State Launches Search for Provost and VPAA

Middle Georgia State University is launching a nationwide search for a new provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Myers McRae Executive Search and Consulting is handling the search for the University.

The provost and VPAA is the chief academic officer.The person in the position is expected to provide strategic vision and academic leadership to advance the mission and goals of Middle Georgia State. This executive officer promotes the goals of access and affordability and is committed to the success of both faculty and students. The provost and VPAA represents the University's academic endeavors with key constituents, including the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and elected officials. In the president's absence, the provost and VPAA serves as the chief executive officer of the institution.

The new executive will replace Dr. Marti Venn, who recently spearheaded the academic preparation and accreditation approval of Middle Georgia State’s move from a state college to a university. She has accepted the position of deputy vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University System of Georgia. Venn will spend the next two months transitioning to her new position at USG offices in Atlanta.

On January 27, President Christopher Blake announced that Dr. Kevin Cantwell, interim dean of Graduate Studies, will serve as interim provost.

A search committee for the new provost and VPAA will be chaired by Dr. Patrick Brennan, chair of the Faculty Senate, and Nancy Stroud, executive vice president for Finance and Operations. Other committee members will include:

• A representative from the Dean’s Council
• A representative from the SGA Executive Committee
• A staff member (not a direct report to provost) from Academic Affairs
• A faculty member representing the sciences from the College of Arts & Sciences
• A faculty member representing the arts from the College of Arts & Sciences
• A faculty member from the School of Aviation
• A faculty member from the School of Business
• A faculty member from the School of Information Technology
• A faculty member from the School of Health Sciences
• A faculty member from the School of Education
• A representative from the Foundation Board of Trustees
