MGA Accounting Majors Place First, Third in Statewide Competition

Members of the first place team won $1,000 each for their analysis of Whole Foods. Team members were Alexandra Cooper, Paul Moran and Antwain Deal.
Members of the third place team won $300 each for their analysis of UPS. Team members were Clayton Vedder, Jacob Hall and Brittany Adams.
Students acted as internal auditors to present their recommendations on how to address the five largest risks from their selected Fortune 500 firm. The MGA faculty advisor for both teams was Dr. Carol Springer Sargent, associate professor of Accounting.
The MGA teams competed against graduate and undergraduate teams from college and universities across Georgia. Twenty teams entered the competition by submitting written proposals,and finalist teams presented to a mock board of directors in Kennesaw, Ga., on November 11. In addition to MGA, finalist teams included students from University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Kennesaw University, Georgia College and State University, Mercer University and Wesleyan College.
This is third consecutive year MGA has competed in the competition, reaching the “podium” each time. As a result of consistently placing, MGA was invited to serve on the Academic Relations Board of the Atlanta Chapter of the IIA and to apply for certification from the Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP) program.
