MGA Hosts Eclipse Viewings for Students

MGA's Student Life office is hosting an eclipse viewing from 2 to 3 p.m. that day in the green space between the Library and the Teacher Education Building on the Macon Campus. The first 50 MGA students will get a free pair of eclipse glasses. Student Life will serve refreshments, including moon pies and lemonade, while supplies last.
Imad A. El-Jeaid, associate professor of Physics, is hosting a telescope observation of the eclipse on MGA's Cochran Campus, weather permitting. He'll set up the telescope, which will have solar filters, in front of Dillard Hall from about 1 to 4 p.m. Free eclipse glasses will be available while supplies last.
The Academic Affairs office is giving students chances to watch NASA's livestream of the eclipse on all five of MGA's campuses from noon to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served from 1 to 1:30 p.m.:

Central Georgia is outside the path of totality - a 70-mile-wide stretch from Salem, Oregon, to Charleston, S.C., where observers will be able to see the moon completely cover the sun. Depending on how cloudy it is that day, observers in the midstate may be able to see about 95 percent of the sun covered at the peak of the eclipse.
All observers should make sure to have special-purpose solar filters - "eclipse glasses - in order to view the eclipse safely.
