Marking the return of live theater to Middle Georgia State University (MGA), Dr. Stephen Wisker will direct the play Blood at the Root with performances October 3, 4, and 5 on the Macon Campus. Wisker, MGA’s visiting theater director, is hosting AUDITIONS from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, and Thursday, August 22, in the rehearsal hall of the Macon Campus Arts Complex Theater.

Blood at the Root by Dominique Morisseau is a powerful contemporary play, driven by rhythm and infused with hip-hop music and movement. It is based on the events of the Jena 6, the black boys charged as adults after a lunchroom fight with a white student in a Louisiana high school in 2006.

Wisker said all MGA students and community members are welcome to audition for the play.

“We are looking for actors with any level of experience, and also dancers, musicians, artists, technicians and people just curious to be involved with a show,” Wisker said. “Being involved in the play will offer valuable experience of the creative process, the chance to develop transferrable skills and to be part of an ensemble creating a major cultural event in the life of the campus and the community.”

The production also offers a course credit either for performing or technical support. Come along and find out more. Performers are requested to bring a one-minute monologue of their choice to the audition, if possible. Everybody attending will be encouraged to join in some simple and fun exercises and theatre-games.
