Will Simmons, a sport management major, hopes to become an athletic director at the middle school level.

Full Name: William Sawyer Simmons.

Age: 20.

Hometown: Cochran.

Employment: MGA Library student assistant; assistant middle school football coach.

Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Sport Management.

Activities: MGA intramural sports.

Career Goals: “My original plan was to become a teacher and coach at the middle school level. I want to take a business route through management first so that I can get a broader understanding of how the world works.”

He chose Middle Georgia State University because … “Middle Georgia State has a hometown feel. I always knew the University was in Cochran but it was not until I took visits to several other colleges that I knew this was the best fit for me.”

The greatest thing he discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “After about two semesters you meet enough people to get advice on what professors to try to get for classes. You learn more about career fields different students are interested in.  It is a nice feeling to be able to give the advice to underclassmen now, just as upperclassmen did for me when I first came here.”

His greatest academic experience as a Middle Georgia State student has been … “When I got an ‘A’ in music appreciation I knew that I could apply the focus and consistency I applied to that class to all of my other classes.”

To him, greatness means … “Greatness is about having personal goals and going after success. Greatness is more than good grades, it is helping others also be successful. Greatness does not come from the one whose light shines the brightest, it comes from the one who ignites the fire in others.”

In five years … “I will intern at Robins Air Force Base this summer so I hope to turn that into a full-time job after graduation, and later move into working as an athletic director. I see myself being financially independent and starting a family.”
