Middle Georgia State University Launches Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate

Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is introducing a fully online post-master's certificate program in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Scheduled to launch in spring 2021, the certificate program is geared toward Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN). The certificate will allow APRNs who are certified in other advanced nursing practice roles to receive the necessary education they need to take the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification test.

The 19-hour certificate includes three courses of fully online instruction.

“We are excited to bring this new credential to our host of programs within the Department of Nursing," said Dr. Tara Underwood, MGA's dean of the School of Health and Natural Sciences. "The Adult Gerontology post-masters certificate will enable registered nurses to expand their knowledge and skills in this this unique specialization. RNs who can attend to the healthcare needs of the aging baby boomer population and centenarians will be in high demand.” 

The first class will be offered spring 2021 (NURS 5400 Adult/Gerontology Acute Care I). As a one-time opportunity, the Department of Nursing is offering a streamlined admissions process in the month of December 2020 for its pilot cohort.
