On Thursday, March 4, the Middle Georgia State University (MGA) Foundation announced the launch of the public phase of the Building a Legacy of Greatness Capital Campaign, inviting donors from around the region to invest in the continued success of Middle Georgia State University.

The campaign, with which the Foundation hopes to raise more than $11 million, is intended to help fund increased student scholarships, strengthen the University’s academic programming, recruit and retain quality faculty, expand student athletic programs and enhance professional development.  The Greatness Campaign is the largest fundraising effort ever launched by the MGA Foundation.

To date, the campaign has raised more than $10.2 million, and the Foundation hopes to reach their targeted goal by later this year.

The campaign’s final phase was launched during a virtual event on Thursday evening.  MGA President Christopher Blake was joined by Foundation Board Chair Stephen Daugherty and Campaign Chair Bob Hatcher.

“As a new University with a new strategic plan – launching new graduate programs, receiving recognition from the University System of Georgia – we found ourselves in a moment that will never again happen in the history of the institution,” said Hatcher.  MGA’s offerings at its five campuses in central Georgia, as well as globally via its MGA Direct online campus, have expanded in recent years.  The University launched its first graduate program in 2016, and will be offering its first doctoral program, a doctorate of science in information technology, in Fall 2021.

Already, gifts given to the University have allowed for the construction of the new Peyton Anderson Enrollment Center on MGA’s Macon Campus, placed two additional training aircraft at the Macon Downtown Airport for the School of Aviation’s flight program, provided almost half a million dollars in support to health sciences academic programs, funded $65,000 in direct COVID-19 aid for MGA students and supported other programs and initiatives across the University.

“As an institution placing a high value on stewardship and engagement, it is incumbent upon us to not only do the most with the public funds generously provided by the taxpayers of Georgia, but also to find new ways of funding our operations,” said Blake.  “This campaign will not only strengthen our connection to our communities, but also ensure that Middle Georgia State remains a quality, affordable, and accessible home for higher education in the region.”
