Coming from a family of educators, #MGA education major Davlin Wilson plans to continue the tradition by starting his career as a kindergarten teacher. He is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and the MGA President’s Torch Society, a leadership honor society.

Family: Dawn Wilson (mom), David Wilson (dad).

Employment: Instructional paraprofessional, Porter Elementary School.  

Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Elementary/ Special Education with a minor in psychology.

Activities: National Society of Leadership and Success, President’s Torch Society, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. 

Career Goals: “My ultimate goal is to become an elementary/special education teacher. Teaching runs in my family, so this choice just came naturally to me. Growing up, I always loved being in the classroom. I love learning and finding new ways to challenge myself. Having teachers who always encouraged me and challenged me to be my best was also a big inspiration for me to pursue this career.”

He chose Middle Georgia State University because … “I was impressed with the education degree program. I wanted to be a part of a program that supports its students, is flexible with hours, and provided teacher candidates with the best hands-on experience they could offer. When I was researching different education programs, MGA’s stood out to me because it was one of the few programs who worked to provide their teacher candidates with the best hands-on experience in the Middle Georgia area. I also wanted to be close to my friends and family while still having that college experience.”

The greatest thing he discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “The campus organizations. Being a part of these organizations has helped me grow and become more confident within myself and see my true potential. Each organization has given me a voice to use and has given me the opportunity to showcase my leadership skills, while networking and building genuine connections with the people in these organizations. The organizations that I am a part of are all different from one another, but all share the common goal of giving back to the community, and finding your voice and standing for what you believe in.”

His greatest academic experience as a Middle Georgia State student has been … “Obtaining a minor in psychology, as well as making Dean’s List. It was always my goal to make the Dean’s List. Being able to achieve that goal has done nothing but fuel my motivation and has shown that anything is possible with hard work and determination.”

To him, greatness means … “Finding joy in doing what you love. I have always believed that greatness is not measured by how much you make, or how much you do, but rather in what you love to do. As long as you are doing what you enjoy doing and it brings you peace and joy then that is your greatness.”

In five years … “I hope to have obtained a master’s degree while building my career teaching kindergarten. I also hope to be traveling and continuing to find myself. I am hoping that I can get to see what the world has to offer. And I hope to start a family.”
