An employee of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, Jarvin Wright is pursuing MGA’s social work degree to prepare for a second career as a school social worker.

Full Name: Jarvin Wright.

Age: 48.

Hometown: Dublin.       

Residence: East Dublin.  

Family: “My family includes my wife of 22 years, Jacqueline, my daughter, Jamiya, and son, Jorden. My parents are James Wright and Henrietta Williams.”

Employment: “I am currently employed with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice at the Laurens County Court Services Office. I will have been employed with the Department of Juvenile Justice for 25 years as of April 2023.”

Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Social Work, expected spring 2024. He also holds an Associate of Science in Social Work from Georgia Military College.

Class Rank: Junior.

Primary Campus: Macon Campus.

Activities: Deacon and member of the praise team at Living Hope Word Church in East Dublin.  

Career Goals: “After my retirement from the Department of Juvenile Justice, I would like to continue to work with at-risk youth in my community. This is a cause that is near and dear to me because I would like to help youth reach their potential before they become involved in the criminal justice system.”

He chose Middle Georgia State University because … “One reason was all of the positive experiences that many friends have shared with me about their time spent on campus. Another reason was due to the size of the campus and the welcoming environment. Everyone was very patient and understanding of me as I was attempting to navigate the admissions process as an older, non-traditional student.”  

The greatest thing he discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “The willingness of all of the advisors and professors to ensure my academic success. My experiences with all of my advisors and professors have been excellent. I am inquisitive by nature and ask questions to gain knowledge from them. The knowledge that they share often goes beyond textbook answers. They share relevant, real-life perspectives that will further enhance my understanding as I progress through my academic and professional career.”

His greatest academic experience as a Middle Georgia State student has been … “The relationships that I have developed with my classmates. I have found that It is important to learn to network others in any setting, even in the classroom setting. The relationships that I have made thus far at Middle Georgia State will last a lifetime, I am sure.”

To him, greatness means … “Many things, but most importantly to me greatness means to become proficient in anything that you are desiring to accomplish. It is my goal to become proficient academically, professionally, and personally to be able to make a lasting impact in the lives of people I encounter.”

In five years … “I would like to continue to work with at-risk youth in a counseling capacity. I would like work within a school system as a social worker, as well as working with youth and their families in my local community to help give them the skills and tools to help to reach their goals in life.”
