Aviation management and business major Ransford Williams, a senior, recently took first place in the Knights Business Battle entrepreneurial competition. He has taken on many student leadership roles during his time at MGA.

Employment: Researcher & full-time student.

Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Aviation and Management, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in logistics, along with minors in public relations and criminal justice. 

Activities: “I am proud to be an engaged student leader (at times behind the scenes) and scholar at Middle Georgia State University, where I am deeply involved in both academic and extracurricular activities. As a member of Sigma Alpha Pi, the National Society of Leadership and Success, I have had the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who value leadership and excellence. I also served as a senator and later as the president of the Student Government Association from 2022 to 2024, where I worked to represent the student body and drive meaningful change on campus.

“Importantly, as a resolute brother (member) of the illustrious Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., ‘Undeniable Upsilon Psi Chapter,’ I have embraced numerous leadership roles, including parliamentarian, secretary, director of education, and co-editor for The Sphinx magazine and socials. Additionally, I have had the honor of serving as the assistant director of retention and alumni relations (college brother) for the Southern District (2023-2024) and was recently appointed assistant director of conventions for 2024-2025. Alpha Phi Alpha thrives on the leadership of its members, with brothers across the globe diligently contributing their time and talents to advance the fraternity’s mission. Embodying the fraternity’s moniker, ‘Men of Distinction,’ I strive in all my endeavors to uphold its legacy of excellence, service, and distinction.

“Academically, I have been fortunate to achieve Dean’s List honors from fall 2020 to summer 2024, as well as President’s List honors from spring 2023 to spring 2024. I hope to be an Honors Graduate candidate. I was also selected as the recipient of the Robins Financial Credit Union scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year.

“Beyond academics, I am an active participant in a myriad of student organizations (and outside of the academic arena) where my contributions have been recognized with the University Student Leadership Award and the Distinguished Leadership Award (2023-2024).

“One of my most meaningful moments was being selected as the fall 2023 commencement student speaker, a privilege that allowed me to represent my peers and share my journey. My experiences at Middle Georgia State University have profoundly shaped my academic and personal growth, providing a transformative environment where curiosity and innovation thrive. The University’s rigorous coursework and emphasis on real-world application challenged me to think critically, collaborate effectively, and approach problems with a solutions-oriented mindset. Engaging with enthusiastic professors and peers fostered a deeper understanding of both the aviation and business arenas and sharpened my ability to connect theoretical knowledge with practical insights. Through this enriching experience, I developed a solid foundation in leadership and logistics management, while cultivating a passion for strategic thinking and global impact, which continues to inspire and guide my ambitions today.”

Career Goals: “With my degrees, I am open to a variety of career paths, whether in aviation, intelligence, higher education, or public policy. However, my ultimate intent is to work in an environment where my values align with the organization’s mission – and I am ‘happy’ – not because of the pay – but my overall health. For me, there’s a critical distinction between accomplishment and success. Many people are accomplished, they earn prestigious credentials, secure high-profile jobs, and build lucrative careers. While these are admirable achievements, they don’t inherently equate to true career success. Career success, in my view, comes from aligning one’s work with personal values and purpose. It means having the mental strength to lead, make impactful decisions, and foster sustained inner peace and happiness. I aspire to contribute meaningfully in roles where I can effect change, whether by influencing public policy, enhancing aviation management, or improving organizational strategies through consulting. Ultimately, I want to ensure that my work not only reflects personal and professional accomplishments but also delivers a profound sense of fulfillment and positive impact.”

He chose Middle Georgia State University because … “From my very first visit, I felt a sense of belonging. The admissions staff was incredibly welcoming, offering outstanding customer service that left a lasting impression. Although MGA may not be considered a ‘prestigious’ institution by traditional standards, it provided a supportive environment where I felt at home. Additionally, the University offered my desired majors, and the professors proved to be both knowledgeable and approachable. Their genuine commitment to student success, coupled with their willingness to guide and mentor, reinforced my decision to attend.

“MGA’s focus on creating a collaborative and inclusive learning environment allowed me to thrive academically and personally. The University’s emphasis on real-world application and hands-on learning prepared me for challenges beyond the classroom. Choosing Middle Georgia State University wasn’t just about pursuing a degree - it was about finding a community that empowered me to grow and succeed.”

 The greatest thing he discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “Success is truly within reach for those willing to embrace the opportunities available. The University offers an abundance of resources - tutoring, career services, and mentorship programs - all designed to ensure students excel. It’s as if MGA spoon-feeds success to those who take advantage of what’s provided. The professors are especially remarkable, consistently going above and beyond to support students academically and personally. Their dedication creates an environment where it’s nearly impossible to fail unless you fail yourself.

“Middle Georgia State is a hidden gem, combining affordability with exceptional academic support and a community oriented culture. It’s not just a place to earn a degree; it’s a place that fosters growth, resilience, and the determination to achieve more than you ever thought possible. This discovery has only deepened my gratitude for choosing MGA.”

His greatest academic experience as a Middle Georgia State student has been … “My greatest academic experience has been shaped by a combination of enriching relationships, inspiring mentorship, and transformative opportunities. My fraternity brothers have been a constant source of support and camaraderie, pushing me to grow both personally and professionally. I’ve also had the privilege of learning from some of the most incredible professors, whose dedication and guidance have left a lasting impact on my journey. No matter how busy they were, they always made time to offer advice, share wisdom, and ensure my success. Additionally, my aviation academic advisors have been instrumental in charting my path, offering unwavering support and insight as I navigated my dual degree programs.

“Serving as Student Government Association president has also been a highlight of my time at MGA. While I wished to make an even greater impact and increase visibility, the experience taught me invaluable lessons in leadership and resilience. All these experiences, combined with the lessons learned along the way, have prepared me to graduate proudly as a Knight. I will forever represent Middle Georgia State University with gratitude and pride, knowing it has played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today.”

To him, greatness means … “Stepping boldly into life’s unknown with faith and determination, trusting in my abilities and purpose. It’s about being recommended into rooms I’ve dreamed of, spoken of positively, and recognized for my potential. Greatness is not just about achieving goals but about aligning my pursuits with my passions, fulfilling the essence of who I am. It’s being sought after for the value I bring, the impact I make, and the authenticity I maintain in every endeavor.”

In five years … “Not to sound morose – but, inevitable (life happens) – I hope to be alive! In the first five years after graduation, I see myself pursuing both professional and personal growth with determination and faith. Currently, I am in the process of completing admission forms for five graduate schools, working under the pressure that often brings out my best. I hope to further my education and expand my knowledge in fields aligned with my passions, such as aviation, public policy, or consulting.

“Personally, I aim to navigate life’s opportunities with God’s guidance, embracing each step of the journey with gratitude. Whatever the universe has in store, I trust it will align with my purpose and allow me to contribute meaningfully while continuing to grow as an individual. My ultimate goal is to be in a place of fulfillment, where I can look back and be proud of the foundation I’ve built while remaining open to all the favorable paths ahead.”
