“The University’s commitment to providing high-quality technical education, along with the opportunity to work directly with aircraft and UAV technology, made it the perfect fit for aligning to my career goals. … Aviation technology is advancing rapidly, and I want to be at the forefront of that evolution.”

Full Name: Westley “West” Abadie.

Age: 20.

Hometown: Crossroads, Ga.

Residence: Acworth, Ga.

High School: North Paulding High School, where he participated in Olympic shooting and the ROTC program.

Family: “My journey to being featured in this way would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my girlfriend, Elizabeth Tselykovskaya, who also serves as the vice president of the MGA student organization we founded. Her dedication, intelligence, and guidance have been invaluable along the way. Additionally, I am deeply grateful to my parents, who have shared their expertise and work ethic with me, empowering me to achieve all that I have so far. Their lessons in self-confidence, critical thinking, and hands-on skills have shaped my ability to adapt and excel in various fields, more specifically in aviation. I know that I have only scratched the surface of my potential, and I look forward to continuing to grow in both knowledge and experience. Furthermore, although not family, Christy Faulk has played a massive role in making this happen; The number of questions and constant guidance from her has really helped make me stand out and make this all possible!”

Employment: Full-time student.

Degree Objective: Applied Associate of Science, Aircraft Structural Maintenance/Aircraft Maintenance Technology.

Class Rank: Sophomore.

Primary Campus: Eastman.

Activities: “Elizabeth Tselykovskaya and I co-founded the Model Aviation/UAV Organization at Middle Georgia State University. We both proudly serve as founders and presidents. This organization was created to foster innovation, hands-on experience, and collaboration among students who share a passion for aviation and unmanned aerial vehicles. We aim to provide students with opportunities to engage in real-world applications, from drone technology to aerodynamics research, ensuring they leave with a strong foundation for their future careers.”

Career Goals: “My ideal career would involve working with aircraft or UAVs in a field that is both innovative and impactful. Aviation technology is advancing rapidly, and I want to be at the forefront of that evolution. I am exploring multiple career paths, including roles in law enforcement, defense contracting, and research-driven companies such as Boeing, Airbus, Raytheon, and SpaceX. Each of these industries plays a critical role in shaping the future of aviation, whether through safety enforcement, technological advancements, or pioneering new aerospace developments. My goal is to apply my skills in a way that contributes to both technological progress and practical application, ensuring that I make a meaningful impact in the field.”

He chose Middle Georgia State University because … “It stood out to me as the top choice for my education due to its strong emphasis on aviation and its hands-on approach to learning. The Eastman Campus, in particular, provides an environment where students can get hands-on in the field, gaining practical experience alongside book knowledge. The University’s commitment to providing high-quality technical education, along with the opportunity to work directly with aircraft and UAV technology, made it the perfect fit for aligning to my career goals. Additionally, the supportive faculty and resources available at MGA offer an amazing foundation for students looking to excel in aviation specifically and other related fields.”

The greatest thing he discovered about Middle Georgia State was … “I quickly realized that the greatest part of the University is its community. The faculty and staff are genuinely invested in student success, providing mentorship and guidance that go beyond the classroom. Furthermore, MGA provides an environment where like-minded individuals can come together to collaborate and innovate, which made starting my organization much easier. This became especially evident when Elizabeth and I founded the Model Aviation/UAV Organization. MGA and had a TON of interest off the bat! This similar interest allowed us to create an organization that benefits students who share our passion. The sense of friendship and shared ambition among students and club members has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my experience here & starting Aero Model Aviation. It's a massive family, which in my opinion makes everything much more rewarding and worth it in the end.”

His greatest academic experience at MGA has been … “Founding the Model Aviation/UAV Organization has been both a challenge and a privilege, as it has allowed me to apply what I’ve learned in the classroom to real-world projects. Organizing events, collaborating with faculty, and working alongside students who share my passion have provided me with a well-rounded education that extends beyond textbooks and normal clubs. Additionally, the hands-on training in aviation technology at the Eastman Campus has been quite transferable to the organization, reinforcing my belief that practical application is just as crucial as book knowledge in this field. These experiences have strengthened my problem-solving abilities and leadership skills, preparing me for the competitive industries I plan to enter after graduation!”

To him, greatness means … “In my opinion, greatness is commonly misunderstood, especially in today’s world where everyone looks up to monotonous celebrities. Greatness is not measured by personal titles, accolades, or even individual success. I believe it is defined by the impact one has on others and the lasting impact they leave behind. True greatness comes from pushing beyond limitations of what people say is reasonable, striving for improvement, and using your knowledge and skills to contribute to a greater purpose. It means that you recognize success is not a solo journey but rather a shared effort that is built on collaboration, and a commitment to others. In my case, this reflects on Elizabeth and Christy. To me, greatness is about taking risks, loving challenges, and helping everyone that is along the journey with you!”

In five years … “Within the first five years after graduation, I envision myself working in a role that allows me to combine my expertise in aviation with my passion for problem-solving and innovation. Whether that be in law enforcement, working as a specialist in UAV technology, or contributing to advancements within the aerospace industry, my goal is to be part of something that drives progress and has real-world significance. I also plan to continue developing my leadership skills, potentially pursuing additional certifications or degrees that will further enhance my expertise.

“On a personal level, I want to continue surrounding myself with ambitious and driven individuals who push me to grow and improve. I hope to take on mentorship roles, guiding others who share my passion for aviation and technology. Additionally, I see myself expanding the initiatives I started at MGA, possibly working on independent projects related to UAV research or aviation advancements. Most importantly, I want to keep learning, challenging myself, and striving to make a lasting impact in whatever field I choose to pursue. I feel that MGA definitely gives students the opportunity to foster a sense of purpose in the classroom, community, and myself. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and pushed me along this far!”
