History of Drug or Alcohol Use
     - Six had no use
     - Five had light use
     - One had moderate use
     - Two had heavy use

    - One character’s use was unidentifiable
Out of the five black or African-American characters, all of them were considered “good guys”.
Four of them were upper class while only one of them was lower class. Four had no history of
drug or alcohol use, while one of them had a history of heavy use.

         The one Hispanic or Latino character was a “good guy,” middle class, and had a history
of light drug or alcohol use.

         Out of the nine white characters, six were considered “good guys,” while three were
considered the “bad guys.” Four were middle class while the others were upper class. One had no
history of drug or alcohol use, four had a history of light drug or alcohol use, one had a history of
moderate drug or alcohol use, one had a history of heavy drug or alcohol use, and one’s history
of drugs or alcohol was unidentified.

                                                     Findings
         This study was conducted for two reasons. A) to find how proportionately race is
represented in This Is Us, and B) to find how this show depicts different races of people through
its characters. Finally, all the results of the study will be compared to data from real life and we
will find how similar the two are.
