Interactive Fiction Project

The Knight's Journey helps students develop and enhance their innate virtues commonly attributed to modern day knights. Using the power of story, the Knight's Journey uses an interactive fiction platform with gamification. As a reader (player), students will engage in a series of quests to help them understand and adopt the virtues of a Knight. Each quest allows students to explore certain character traits, that when adopted, will enhance their ability to lead at work, school, and in your community.

We are looking for writers to participate in this project. Your role as a writer is to create the foundational story for the quest. Each quest will consist of three trials and will follow the Hero’s Journey framework. As a writer, you will be provided a story prompt with framework example. Within this framework, you can create a story that supports the development of the intended virtue. Story prompts and frameworks are provided to help you with the structure of the story and ensure transfer into the interactive fiction model. A panel will review the stories and select the story that best captures the essence of the Knight’s quest for the intended virtue.

Top writers will be invited to participate in a broader interactive fiction activity. The writers from the top 3 submissions will be offered the opportunity to work with the interactive fiction design team to create the quest in Twine. This team will expand the selected story by adding decision branches that lead to alternate outcomes. These branches create interaction and enhance the overall experience.
