As we start the semester, we know that our phone lines can be busy. To assist you, we've answered some of our most frequently asked questions regarding financial aid, payments, and classes.
Getting Started at MGA
Who do I need to talk to about paying for my classes?
Depending on your questions, you may need to speak to the
Bursar’s Office or the
Financial Aid office:
- If you have questions about MGA scholarships, fellowships, grants, and/or loans, contact the Financial Aid Office
- If you have questions about outside scholarship, third party/TA/TAP process, international payments, paying out of pocket or paying with an installment plan, contact the Bursar’s Office.

How do I view my balance?
To view your balance:
- Log into SWORDS
- Select “Student”
- Select “Student Account”
- Select “Account Detail by Term”
- Select the corresponding term + submit
What is the status of my FAFSA?
To check the status of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) form:
Log into studentaid.gov. Your FAFSA status can be found on the “My FAFSA” page, which displays immediately after you log in if you have already started or completed a FAFSA form. To check on the status of financial aid being disbursed to you or your account, please see “How do I see what financial aid I’ve been awarded?” below.
Note: If you submitted a paper FAFSA form, you can check the status of your application after it has been processed (roughly seven to ten days from the date mailed).
How do I make sure my financial aid has been applied?
To make sure your financial aid has been applied to your student account, visit Financial Aid Office's Accepting Aid page and follow the steps under “Check Student Account Details.”
Note: Please make sure to complete step #5 (Click on “Account Detail by Term”) in order to see your current account status.
Why isn't my financial aid showing?
Make sure you've followed the steps on the Financial Aid Office's Accepting Aid page to accept the financial aid terms and conditions and your award offers.

How do I set up a payment plan?
Enrolling in a payment plan is easy:
- Log on to SWORDS: mga.edu/SWORDS
- Select the Student tab
- Click Student Account
- Click Nelnet Payment Plan
You are then redirected to the FACTS Management Co NBS e-Cashier Automatic Payment Program for MGA where you will follow the steps to complete your online payment setup.
Registering for Classes
Is my class online or in-person?
Check your detailed schedule in SWORDS to view when/where your classes will be held:
- Log in to SWORDS
- Click on the student tab
- Click Registration
- Click Student Detail Schedule
If you are taking online courses, D2L will be home to your classes.
If you are taking eCore online courses, refer to the eCore Learning page.

Student Housing and Dining
Am I required to buy a meal plan? How do I go about purchasing a meal plan?
All residential students are required to have a meal plan on the Cochran and Macon campuses for the fall and spring semesters. Meal plans are automatically added to the residential student’s account once a student has been assigned and confirmed housing. Commuters can choose to purchase a commuter meal plan. Are classes canceled due to weather?
In the event of a weather emergency, affected campus(es) will be notified via a Knight Alert – text, voice, & email messages alerting you to the situation & advising you of steps to take to ensure your safety.
