Traditional freshman

A traditional freshman is someone who graduated from high school within the past 5 years and have 0 – 29 transferable college course credits.

• Minimum High School GPA 2.0
• English proficiency – Applicants whose primary language is not English, and have not attended an institution of higher education within the U.S., must show proof of English proficiency through one of these options.

Non-traditional freshman

A non-traditional freshman is someone who graduated from high school 5+ years ago and has 0 – 29 transferable college course credits.

• Equivalent to US high school diploma
• English proficiency – Applicants whose primary language is not English, and have not attended an institution of higher education within the U.S., must show proof of English proficiency through one of these options.

Transfer students

A transfer student is someone who has earned 30+ transferable college course credits, regardless of high school graduation date.

• Cumulative grade-point average of 2.0 or above (based on a 4.0 scale) on all work attempted
• English proficiency – Applicants whose primary language is not English, and have not attended an institution of higher education within the U.S., must show proof of English proficiency through one of these options.

Now that you have been accepted you will need to register for courses, complete online orientation, and satisfy the mandatory student health insurance requirement.

Course registration

• Complete the pre-enrollment survey that was sent in your acceptance email.
• Contact your academic advisor to finalize your course schedule. 
• IMPORTANT F1 STUDENT COURSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 12 credit hours, of which 9 hours must be on campus courses
  • All courses must be full term. Short session courses do not count toward the 12 credit hour minimum.
• Tuition must be paid in full, prior to the payment deadline

Student Health Insurance

All F 1 visa students are required to participate in the mandatory student insurance program by;

• Option 1: Accept the health coverage plan

OR

• Option 2: Request and be approved for a waiver

Once you have been accepted to Middle Georgia State, you can begin the steps to apply for an I-20. I 20s will be issued once Affidavit of support has been approved AND you have a course schedule that is in compliance with F1 student course requirements. See ‘ After being accepted’ section above for requirements.

• Step 2: Supporting financial documentation
  Provide bank statement or statement from bank on signed bank letterhead, showing $24,741 US dollars that will support your education at MGA.
  Bank statement or bank letter must be in English.
  Issue date must be within the past six months
  Complete sponsor commitment form or sponsor letter (IF you are being sponsored by someone else)
• Step 3: Transfer current F1 visa
  If you currently hold a F1 visa from another US institution, please complete the transfer in form and turn it in to a designated school official (DSO), at your current school.
