Integration of technology within the security industry has significantly changed over the
past decade. For example, security panels with the use of cellular phone applications (apps) can
create a single hub to integrate home automation with a user’s alarm system. The user can
remotely monitor and control lights, appliances, HVAC, and other security devices (i.e.,
cameras, smoke detectors, door locks, windows, and other sensors) on a single network. These
capabilities make it easier for customers to protect themselves and their assets.

The development of apps for security panels has been a leading factor in advancing
security home automation technology. Apps, which can be downloaded to a user’s Android or
iOS smartphone, make it easy for any user to control their security panel. Companies like ADT
have an in-house app enabling the user to remotely monitor both home automation and security
devices. Research shows that industry leaders are those companies that recognize the importance
of integrating technology and exhibit a willingness to exploit its capabilities in their current and
future security business operations.

When searching for a security system, competitive pricing is important; users look to
save on costs. Quality equipment and new products can be expensive depending on the service
selected. Matching a user’s needs to the appropriate service level is a challenge for security
service providers. Scalco (2017) reported how competitive the market is between start-up
companies and big-name corporations. This competitiveness affects profitability and bundling
options. First-time homeowners frequently take advantage of a lower package when business
owners are trying to sell on the higher end.

Companies have three options when setting the price for a service product or service
level: below the competition, at the competition, or above the competition (Kenton, 2018). ADT
