Special Institutional Fees

The University System of Georgia (USG) Board of Regents (BOR) approved a Special Institutional Fee for all USG colleges and universities for the Spring 2009 semester based on the type of institution. The Institution fee for Middle Georgia State was $50. This fee was continued for the Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 semesters. In November 2009, the USG BOR approved to increase (double) this fee at all institutions for the Spring 2010 semester. This action increased Middle Georgia State's Special Institutional Fee to $100. Effective July 1, 2010, the BOR approved $15 of Middle Georgia State's Special Institutional Fee to be designated as a Public Safety Fee. In April 2011, the USG BOR approved another increase in the Special Institutional Fee. Effective July 1, 2011, Middle Georgia State's Special Institutional Fee was $200 per semester, of which $15 was designated as a Public Safety Fee. In a Resolution Approved by Board of Regents on April 12, 2012, it was resolved “that the Special Institutional Fee shall be exempt or reduced for the following: A) Exempt all active duty military students; B) Reduce the Special Institutional Fee by 50 percent for all students taking less than 5 credit hours; C) Exempt dual enrolled students; D) Exemption for cross-registered students at multiple institutions who pay the Special Institutional Fee at the home institution only; and E) Exempt students who typically do not pay fees such as senior citizens…and that the Special Institutional Fee would be considered as continuing, and would be re-evaluated annually as part of the Board's normal review of tuition and fees.” The $15 Public Safety Fee was discontinued with the consolidation of Macon State College and Middle Georgia College and the implementation of the $10 parking fee at Middle Georgia State University in Fall 2013.
