Academic Momentum
New Programs & Pathways
If leadership and engaged faculty are one-third of the recipe for academic momentum and a focus on the student experience is another
third, the final piece of the puzzle is o ering programs and pathways that lead to fulfilling employment.
Our state—and our region in particular—has a long history of musicianship, boasting such legends as Otis Redding, Little Richard, and the
Allman Brothers Band. This year, we launched a new baccalaureate degree in Contemporary Musicianship designed to prepare music majors
for the new creative economy, adding elements like marketing, entrepreneurship, and management to courses in music technology, studio
production, song writing, scoring, and arranging.
Two more undergraduate degrees are starting this year. Our new Bachelor of Arts in Political Science equips our students for careers in
government and education or prepares them for graduate study in applied fields such as law and public administration, while our new
Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science o ers a credential flexible enough to help students advance through various fast-growing
fields of healthcare, including Occupational Therapy.
In addition to o ering more undergraduate pathways, we have added a new Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing and Digital Communi-
cation. This credential helps meet the need expressed by an array of Middle Georgia employers—from the private, public, and non-profit
sectors—for professionals with critical thinking and communication skills vital to today’s global and increasingly digital workplace.
