How do I get a closed course overridden?
The CLOSED SECTION error occurs when students attempt to register for a class that is full. To resolve this error, students should register for another section of the course or select a different course. Students have the option to see if an override is possible from the instructor and Chair/Dean responsible for the course. If approved, the department will register the student.
How to correct a prerequiste error?
The PREQ & TEST SCORE error occurs when students attempt to register for courses in which they do not meet the course prerequisites. Course prerequisites are checked during the registration process.To resolve this error, students should register for a different course in which they meet course prerequisites. A list of course prerequisites can be found by returning to the Registration Worksheet and clicking on Class Search at the bottom of the page. Once you find the course in question, click on the CRN number and then on the Course Title. The course prerequisites are listed at the bottom of the page. When registering for a course that requires an additional course to be taken with it, you will receive a course PREQ & TEST SCORE or CORQ Course XXXX REQ ERROR until registration for both courses are successful.
How do I register drop or add a course during registration?
When registration opens, students without registration HOLDS may register online using SWORDS. Students with HOLDS must register through an advisor in a School that houses their degree major. Students may register at any of the five Middle Georgia State campuses. New students are required to register through an advisor. When using Banner Web, students may register online at

How do I register for classes?
Most students will register via their SWORDS account.
- Log into SWORDS
- Click on Student
- Click on Registration
- Click Select Term
- Choose Registration Term
- Click on Add or Drop Classes
- Type in CRNs into Add Classes Worksheet
- Click on Submit Changes
- Verify Course Schedule by viewing detail schedule
- In some cases, the Academic Adviser must register the student.
I have a Co-Requisite error.
The CORQ (Co-requisite) error occurs when students do not register for a group of courses that are linked together. Resolution: Students must register for all co-requisite courses at the same time.
I have a level restriction error.
The LEVEL RESTRICTION error occurs when the student attempts to register for a specific course that requires a higher class level (Jr, Sr). Eligible students may speak with the appropriate School to resolve this issue.
I have a major restriction error.
The MAJOR RESTRICTION error occurs when students attempt to register for courses that are reserved for a specific degree/major or groups of majors. To resolve this error, eligible students should register for another course or seek override permission from the academic department offering the course.
I have a maximum hours exceeded error.
A load in excess of seventeen hours must be approved by the students' advisors and department chairs. A load of twenty or more semester hours must be approved by the Office of Academic Affairs.
I have a TIME CONFLICT WITH XXXXX error.
The TIME CONFLICT error occurs when students attempt to register for courses that conflict or overlap by date and time.To resolve this error, students should register for courses on a different date and time.
I have met all prerequisites, and I still cannot register.
Students must satisfy all "Registration Requirements" (usually a Learning Support course MATH, READ, ENGL) listed on the Registration Worksheet prior to registering for other classes.If student indicates that all pre-requisites have been met, please submit a ticket to the help desk.
What do I need to do to audit a class? Do I have to be already enrolled?
Auditing of courses will be permitted for regularly enrolled students. Students may register for and attend a class without being responsible for the work required in the course. No credit is given, but tuition must be paid. Students must register for an audit before the drop/add period ends. Students who audit a course may register for credit for the same course in another term. A grade of V appears on the transcript.
What happens when I repeat a course?
Undergraduate students who repeats a course will have the cumulative Grade Point Average calculated using the grade from the highest attempt. The grade of the subsequent attempts that are excluded from the GPA will remain on the student's official permanent record.
What is the difference between Drop/Add and Withdrawal?
The add/drop time is when a student can drop and add courses without penalty during the designated drop/add period for each semester or term within a semester. See academic calendar for specific dates. A course that is dropped during this period will not generate an official record of enrollment in the class. Withdrawal period is after the add/drop period has ended for the semester. Students submitting a course Withdrawal for courses will be graded with a W and no refund will be generate unless withdrawing from all courses. Withdrawing after mid-term will result in a grade of WF. Please see academic calendar for specific dates.
When is drop add?
Students are allowed to drop or add classes during the published drop/add period in the academic calendar without penalty (without receiving a grade of W or WF in the course). If students drop a class during the drop/add period, the course is not entered on the student's record. Students without HOLDS may drop or add a class online through their Banner Web account. Otherwise they should see their advisor to make a change. Learning Support Students, Athletes and International Students must adjust their schedules through an advisor.
