Withdrawal FAQs
How do I withdraw from a class or classes?
You may initiate a change (add or withdraw) to your course schedule via Student Web Organized Records and Data System (SWORDS) depending on the time-frame involved. This option does not apply to students who have registration HOLDS, such as for Learning Support Advisement, new students prevented from Web Registration, immunizations, transcripts, etc. Students who withdraw via SWORDS or by submitting a Withdrawal Form to the Registrar's Office should print a copy of the screen confirming the withdrawal for their records. Withdrawals are ultimately the responsibility of the students who use this service. In extenuating circumstances, you may download the Drop form from the Registrar's Web site and either mail or fax it to the address/FAX number noted below. You should note the circumstances on the form for our records. We recommend you call or email the Registrar's Office to ensure we received your mail or fax request and confirm that it was processed. Once students reach the 5 course limit, all subsequent withdrawals will be assigned grades of WF. Withdraw limit counts start effective Fall 2016, when the policy was implement and only pertain to MGA course work. Please refer to the academic catalog for the complete Middle Georgia State withdrawal policy.
I need to medically withdraw from a class or classes?
If we are still in the Withdrawal period, student needs follow normal withdrawal procedures. The request will be processed using the submission date for the course withdrawal. If after the Withdrawal period, Documentation substantiating the reason for the request must be submitted along with a Withdrawal Request Form. Examples of documentation: physician statement and signature on office letterhead; occupational documents; copy of obituary, with proof of relationship to deceased; etc. Partial withdrawal is not an option. If a hardship or medical withdrawal is granted, the student will be withdrawn from all classes in which he/she is enrolled and will receive a grade of "W" for each class. Request and documentation must be submitted within the semester of withdrawal prior to posting of grades for the semester/session, and the student must be passing all courses at time of withdrawal.
What is the difference between dropping a course and withdrawing from a course?
Dropping a course before the end of the Drop Add period will refund the student the tuition for the course if already paid. Withdrawing from a course after Drop Add and the student will receive a W (or WF if after the Withdrawal period), the student is obligated to pay for the course and will not receive a refund.
